Art of Health Global Youth Transforming Creative Health Advocacy

In 2023, the Art of Health launched an ambitious initiative: the Global Youth Advisory Council; a pioneering group of twelve creative and passionate young leaders from ten countries. Over the course of a transformative year, these extraordinary individuals, through their deep understanding of the challenges faced by youth in their regions, launched Art of Health projects in their communities to address these health and wellbeing issues.

From substance abuse awareness campaigns in Nigeria to mental health initiatives in India, the council members tackled some of the most pressing issues affecting young people worldwide.

Each member of the council brought unique expertise and creativity to their projects, demonstrating the power of art to transform lives:

  • Lois (Nigeria):[TM1]

Through her Substance Abuse Awareness Campaign, Lois educated young people on the dangers of drug abuse.

"Art instils good morals and inspires a brighter future for our youth," she shared.

  • Waheed (Zimbabwe):

In his spoken word documentary, Waheed highlighted the power of skateboarding as a tool for physical, mental, and social wellbeing[TM2] .

"It fosters resilience, community building, and sustainable living," he said.

  • Kseniia (Ukraine):

Her project, Visible-Invisible, explored women’s health and identity through visual storytelling, breaking taboos and encouraging open dialogue.

"Art has the power to break down norms and make complex topics personal," Kseniia emphasized.

  • Poulet (Mexico):

Poulet used dance to depict the emotional and physical toll of eating disorders, creating a powerful narrative of vulnerability and resilience.

  • Maxim (Russia):

His project, SPARK, focused on the emotional struggles of cancer patients, blending art with psychology to ignite hope and healing.

"Art can cut through the noise and reach people in ways other methods cannot," Maxim reflected.

From Tanuj’s mental health campaigns in India to Shehu’s Art Over Addiction Competition in Nigeria, the projects underscored the unique challenges young people face in different parts of the world. As the Global Youth Advisory Council alumni reflect on their journey, their words carry a powerful message for young people:

  • “Don’t fear being yourself. Use creativity to make positive changes.” – Kseniia

  • “Speak truth, express yourself authentically, and stand in solidarity. Together, we can create a healthier world.” – Lois

  • “Let creativity light sparks in the hearts of young people everywhere.” – Maxim

The Global Youth Advisory Council has proven that when young voices are amplified and paired with creativity, the results are transformative. Their year-long program may have ended, but their impact is just beginning.
