"Hold My Hand," served as a powerful campaign against the use and effects of harmful substances.
In this painting, a figure stood with a no smoking sign held in one hand, symbolizing a commitment to avoiding harmful substances. The other hand was outstretched, reaching towards the viewer in a plea for support and understanding. The figure's eyes conveyed a deep sense of longing, a silent cry for help from a society that often turned a blind eye to those struggling with addiction.
As I worked on the painting, l used a combination of oil and charcoal infusing the figure with a sense of vulnerability and strength. I felt a deep connection to the subject, knowing that everyone deserved a helping hand and a shoulder to lean on during their darkest moments.
When the painting was finally completed, I felt a sense of pride and hope wash over her. I knew that "Hold My Hand" would serve as a beacon of light for those battling addiction, a reminder that they were not alone in their journey towards recovery.
And so, to me the painting became more than just a piece of art it became a symbol of unity, compassion, and the power of community coming together to lift each other up. Drawing lines of my fingerprint over the bodily parts of the figure served as a reminder that we are all connected, and that by holding each other's hand, we can overcome any challenge that comes our way.
